Every year, people come through the gates of Glenshiel to browse beautiful things, meet the people behind them, catch up with friends and spend a day in one of Johannesburg’s most beautiful historic settings.
It is everything we love about the Glenshiel Fair.
But behind the shopping, food and atmosphere is something much bigger.
When we say Shop for Good, we mean that simply by being part of the Fair, you are also helping to support the work of St John South Africa.
A Fair with a purpose
Glenshiel Estate is not only the home of the Fair. It is also home to St John South Africa, an organisation that has been serving communities across the country for generations.
The annual Fair is one of the ways in which this remarkable property helps support that work.
Every ticket purchased contributes to the Fair’s fundraising purpose, which helps St John continue delivering services that make a practical difference in communities across South Africa.
So when you buy your ticket, arrive for Preview Evening or spend a day exploring the Fair, there is a purpose behind your visit.
Where that support goes
St John’s work reaches into communities in several important ways.
Through its eye care services, St John helps provide access to essential eye health services, particularly for people and communities where care may otherwise be difficult to access.
Its first aid training equips people with practical, potentially life-saving skills, while its broader community health work helps extend care and support where it is needed.
These are practical services with a very human impact, and the Glenshiel Fair is proud to play a part in supporting them.
Shopping that supports more than one community
There is another side to Shop for Good, too.
The Fair brings together a carefully curated collection of independent businesses, designers, makers and producers. When you choose something from one of their stalls, you are supporting the people and businesses behind the products you take home.
It creates a lovely circle of support: a Fair that gives independent businesses a place to meet their customers, brings people together at Glenshiel and helps raise funds for the work of St John.
That is what Shop for Good means to us.
